In a few minutes (8 PM Reykjavik time), Yoko Ono will turn on the Imagine Peace Tower. She lights it every year on his birthday and it is turned off each year on December 8 (the anniversary of his murder). My daughters and I took the ferry from Reykjavik to Viðey Island to visit the site. We had the island almost to ourselves as we biked around it. Although we visited when the beam was not on, even without the light, the tower is inspiring with its symbolism and with the word PEACE written on the sides in 24 languages.
As for today, I made my own wish on the site (we are all asked to do so if we can... please do so too). My wish? That the memory of John Lennon will inspire us all to reach out to one another. IMAGINE PEACE TOWER – live feed http://imaginepeacetower.com/
